Mitch Cope, born in Detroit 50 years ago has worked in a wide range of artistic studio and administrative practices for 30 of those years (the most recent). With a core focus in painting, drawing, photography, and installations, he has shown internationally.

About the event
Mitch's collaborative and administrative work includes the founding of the Tangent Gallery in Detroit, Design 99, the expansive neighborhood arts non profit Power House Productions responsible for projects such as Ride It Sculpture Park, Play House, Sound House, Power House, among others. He was the first assistant Curator at the beginnings of the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit. In 2003-04 he worked as local curator and participant in the international exhibition Shrinking Cities out of Berlin, Germany. He received a Kresge arts award, Creative Capital award and a Juried Prize at Art Prize. He traveled on a cultural envoy with the US State Department working with Turkman artists to create a joint exhibition in Turkmenistan. Academically, Mitch earned a BFA from College for Creative Studies and an MFA from Washington State University.
